Tifa is a musical instrument that is from Maluku and Papua; it is much played like drums; we either strike or hit it. It is made from timber, the edges are covered, and usually cover used deerskin that has been dried to produce a good & beautiful sound. Its shape is usually made with nice carvings, each tribe in Maluku and Papua have their own designs. This percussion instrument is commonly used as musical backing to traditional dances such as the war dance, the Asmat tribal dance, the Gatsi dance, as well as for certain local ceremonies in specific rituals. Traditional musical instruments of Papua are atowo, drums, and fu. |
